Dr. Edmundo Castro Jiménez is an international climate and sustainability expert, environmental economist, educator, and agronomist with more than thirty years of experience. He brings extensive academic and practical expertise in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, carbon neutrality strategies, carbon-offset project verification, environmental asset valuation, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource economics.
Dr. Castro holds a PhD in Education from Universidad La Salle, focusing on the interactions between economics, ecology, and society; a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, specializing in natural resources, from New Mexico State University in the United States; and a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology.
He specializes in ISO 14064 (Parts 1–3) and ISO/IEC 14065. At EARTH University in Costa Rica, he founded and coordinated the greenhouse gas verification program, establishing a nationally and internationally accredited GHG verification system and personally training more than a thousand professional auditors from Latin America and organizations worldwide. He has also served as an environmental consultant to Costa Rica’s national oil company (RECOPE) and as a member of the National Environment and Energy Council.
Dr. Castro has provided long-term consultancy to multinational companies including Bayer, San Francisco Bay Coffee Company, and S&G Solutions. His work supports GHG reductions across international agricultural supply chains, including coffee, sugar cane, and livestock, as well as models for calculating farm-level carbon sinks and carbon removals, and carbon neutrality strategies.
He taught at EARTH University for many years and currently teaches at Bionomic in Colombia and ESCP Business School in France and Hong Kong, developing and delivering advanced management courses in greenhouse gas auditing, reporting, measurement, and verification. Combining rigorous ISO auditing with practical agricultural experience, he continues to contribute to the low-carbon transition and sustainable development of agricultural value chains worldwide.
